Gooseberry is a type of fruit from the genus currant. It ripens from early July to mid-August. It is harvested when the fruit is greenish, and often varieties whose fruit is red are also harvested at that stage. Harvesting is done by hand, and the harvested fruit must not be left in the sun because it spoils easily. It is a shrub of medium growth that begins to give birth in the second year, and gives full fertility in the period from 5 to 8 years. On average, it lives for about 15 years, but it can live to 20. The gooseberry is resistant to low temperatures. During deep winter dormancy, it can withstand up to -25 ° C, and freezes at -35 ° C. It is also sensitive to high summer temperatures when burns appear on the leaves.
