Fruit pear seedlings – Santa Maria

Fruit pear seedlings – Santa Maria

Santa Maria Pear ripens in mid-August. The fruits are medium to large in size. The skin of the fruit turns lemon yellow as it ripens, with a beautiful blush on the sunny side. The flesh is juicy, fine-melting, aromatic, and has a pleasant taste.

The tree of the Santa Maria Pear is vigorous and highly productive, with medium-late blooming. However, this variety is moderately sensitive to late spring frosts during flowering, as well as to sooty blotch and harmful insects. Due to its high productivity, some refer to it as a “pear factory.” When it comes to pruning, late but light pruning is recommended.

Regarding pollination, it is important to have suitable pollinators for optimal results. Santa Maria pears are best pollinated alongside other pear varieties such as Williams and Butira, ensuring the abundance and quality of the fruit, making it a popular choice among fruit growers.

Available on Rootstocks: Wild Pear, BA29 Quince (Provencal), and MA Quince.
